Birth Doula
As a birth doula, I serve the birthing person and birth partner(s), providing them with education, support, and comfort during the prenatal, birth, and postpartum periods.
I will help you to develop a birth plan and advocate for the facilitation of that birth plan. Doulas understand that your birth belongs to you only and that you deserve respect, support, trust, and empowerment. If I am hired as your midwife, I cannot be both midwife and doula.
The Birth Doula Package may better suit people who are not planning a home birth, have a high-risk pregnancy, or desire to have doula support in a hospital birth.
You can expect the following when working with me as your birth Doula:
PRENATAL CARE
Growth of client-doula relationship to promote trust, advocacy, and support in preparation for your birthing time. Education provided on labor process, birthing options, and labor support techniques.
BIRTH PLANNING
Custom birth plan development throughout your pregnancy. Ensures your desires are well-known and will be advocated for to the best of the doula's ability.
HOME BIRTH SUPPORT
Physical, emotional, and mental support for birthing time. Doula strives to serve birthing person and partner(s) and increase satisfaction of birth experience.
Postpartum: Support, education, and resources provided by doula to ensure transition with new baby is smooth.
What’s Included:
Always a complimentary consultation to make sure we are a match

• 1-2 prenatal appointments to get to know each other, go over childbirth education if needed, coach birth partner(s), and learn comfort measures.
• Basic prenatal and childbirth information including exercises to ease pregnancy discomfort and nutrition guidelines.

• Create or review your birth plan and help work out any questions or fears you may have.
• Continuous birth support when your birthing day (or night) arrives, followed by postpartum and breastfeeding support.
• Clients have access to the doula via messaging in a private client portal or phone calls for more urgent needs.
• The doula will be on call for the birthing time from 36-41 weeks unless

• After birth we meet again to go over any new mom questions or feelings about your recovery and to check on mom and baby. I can help you with breastfeeding basics and birth processing at this time as well.

Midwives and doulas are not the same, but can both be a valuable asset to your pregnancy and birth experiences. A midwife is a licensed care provider, trained to provide medical care during pregnancy, birth, and immediate postpartum. A doula is trained to provide emotional, informational, and physical support during the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. As a certified professional midwife and registered midwife in Colorado, Taylor Biddle provides home birth midwifery services. If a client desires to have doula support as well, the client will need to hire a doula. Taylor can provide some of this type support, but her main focus is the medical aspect and health/wellbeing of the birthing person and baby. If a client is planning a hospital delivery, Taylor can be hired as a doula to provide this support.

Doulas usually stay for the immediate postpartum period, up to 1-2 hours after birth. In this time the doula will ensure breastfeeding has been established if the parent desires to breastfeed, provide support with nourishment, and encourage rest in both the birthing parent and partner if applicable. After these things have been taken care of, the doula will leave the place of birth and the postpartum care will commence.

Postpartum care consists of 1-2 appointments with the doula for birth processing, support in the transition of having another family member/caring for a newborn, breastfeeding support, healing/recovery support. The doula will be available via text or call for additional support/resources as well.
